how to strip insulation from wire for recycling? | |
I am stripping electrical wire to get the copper. ($2.18 lb.)
I have been using a box cutter to strip the wire, but this is a lot of work and slow. I live in town so burning is not an option. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You
Mike

Where are you located? There are many places that will buy it from you as is. Saves you time. I have such a company and I will buy it from you as is. If you are in the Seattle area or have / can get large quantities (worth shipping by rail) email me: tim@uesugi-p.co.jp

the wire zipper is junk. the best wire stripper that i have ever seen is called the striptec 1000 (2000, 3000). they are pretty pricey though (around 3500). i don't own one, but would love to have it. you can find info on them at striptec.com i strip wire with a box knife also. i know it's a lot of hard work, and it really kills the hands. good luck.

take a piece of 2x4, drill a hole in it the diamier of the wire, now take a drywall screw and screw it in the top the hole. put you wire in a couple inches and put the screw in the wire just enough to cut the insulation. pull the wire thru the board. then all you need to do is pull the wire out of the insulation, i can strip 10 to 15 lbs of wire doing it this way. its some work but for 20 - 30 dollars an hours, its worth it.
