do you insulate finished attic space?

we are finishing off the attic space for a playroom. some people advise not to insulate because it will shorten the life of the roof. i feel uncomfortable not insulating at all. the only thing separating the underside of the roof and the playroom will be drywall. is that typical or is there some type of insulation that we should be using?

i think the dryway separation has some kind of insulation for your attic but obviously that is not enough, what you can do is to provide some insulation on the walls to augment the insulation provided by the drywall.
