Should I install insulation with a vapor barrieron it? | |
I am remodeling my second floor. I have 3/8\\\" drywall on the ceilings with newer unfaced insulation in the attic and no vapor barrier. I prefer to just \\\'go over\\\' the existing 3/8\\\" drywall with 3/8\\\" drywall as the old drywall is about 50 years old and you can plainly see the nails and seams under the paint. I have not lived here long but it looks like there might have been or still is a moisture problem causing the seams and nails to be so pronounced. My attic appears to be adequately vented with vents on each side and baffles around perimeter. Could I apply a moisture barrier on old drywall and go over it? Would I have a moisture issue with the new drywall this way? I just want to be efficient and budget minded about this and do it right the first time.

i think what you should do is let an expert do this and watch them do this. since this is your first time, it is better to watch and learn.
