my house is 2424 sq feet. 12 ft ceiling x 11 x 30 on the main flr, 9ft(ceiling) x 15x15 (kitchen), 11ft(ceiling) x 20x15 (mstr ens)..we are normally out 12 hrs everyday and my gas is too high...my question is, b4 i go, what ideal temp should i set my house ?pls help...

No, actually, it sounds like you need a programmable thermostat. That way, your house can 'coast' while you're gone, getting cooler, and start to warm up shortly before you get home. No sense heating an empty home! And depending on your preference, you could also program it to keep the house cooler at night, when you are in bed and plenty warm under the covers.
Also, it's probably a good idea to invest in some additional insulation, especially in the attic. In most areas of the country, R-38 to R-49 is recommended, but builders rarely go this far and usually only install what is required by code.
