i have a walk out ranch style home ! it is 15 years old ! and starting about 2 months ago i started get what looks like black wet lines !( they are not wet just cold! and they outline the rafters and around the recessed lighting fixturs ! they alsomst look like soot ! but have not ran the firplace at all ! and they get worse at night and go away during the day ? and this is the first year that it has done this ! what could the cause and repair be ! thanks bill ( ankeny iowa )

i do suggest you apply spray foam on the area and see what happens. if it still persists, contact a repairman and let them check it. the problem may be larger inside.
