i have a detached garage. it has 2x4 walls, and i insulated with r-15. i plan on heating this in the future. my question-- do i need to put up a vapor barrier? menards salesman says he wouldn't, this way the walls can breath. | |

houses have vapor barrier. why wouldn't they want the walls of your house to breath?
cars can create moisture, but if you are heating it, i kind of doubt that it is for the comfort of a car.
rain is moisture. that would be good to keep out.
i do not have an experienced answer for you. i sleep in an uninsulated horse trailer. during the night the moisture from my breath gathers on the ceiling and can cause rust ( and a wet head when i sit up. ) insulation alone will stop that problem.
keeping a window open is not enough air flow to stop this.
vapor barriers are meant to stop rain and mold from forming. (to my knowledge)

as long as the wall material is un faced ( no paper ) and the exterior walls have no protective barrier on them putting poly on the interior wall poses no problem.
