moving insulation up to rafter cavity - do i need a separate vapor barrier? | |
i have a natural gas furnace in my attic, and the generated heat has been causing ice damns. my project so far has been to install vent channels from the soffit to the ridge vent and r-19 in the rafter cavities. this is unfaced r-19 and i don't have an air or vapor barrier on it.
instead of removing the insulation from the floor and dealing with a new vapor barrier, i am considering leaving it there with the existing vapor barrier. i know it isn't good to have insulation between two conditioned areas, but i have gable vents that can continue to provide ventilation to the attic space.
other than losing some energy benefit from the r-19, do you think i will run into any problems?
thanks for your help!!
