i have halogen light fittings protruing into the loft floor space. is their any fire riskif cover these with loft insulation. what type of insulation can i use

you'll need to check the boxes the lights are mounted in. if they are marked: "o.k. for contact with insulation" or something like that, then you can cover them up. if they are not marked or stamped then you should not cover them but put some sort of insulation dam at least 3 inches away from the fixture. (even cardboard would be o.k.) the danger is heat building up in the fixture (especially hot halogens) and causing a fire.
