i live in a older home. should i insulate the attic space or floor joists first.(i cant afford both at once)

try looking at ceramic spray on coatings, the best is one named thermacote. they have been saving people on insulation cost and energy bills since the mid 80's.

insulate the with blown insulation with a minimum thickness of 12 to 13 inches--this would equate to a r-30 insulation value--depending of what part of the country you live in the higher the r-value the better---if the attic has rock wool or cellulose this can and should be extracted first.
