in my attic some of the trusses are a little further apart than the batt paper will reach to - i can staple one side, but not the other. what's the best way to keep the insulation up? a specific tape?

From:

someone should tell you that is not going to work very well, air space around insulation is a very bad no no, and it will maybe work half as well as it should, but that is assuming only a 1/4 inch gap around, more than that and it's not doing much at all

From: L.E. Chambers

the best way to deal with this problem is to staple a strong string perpendicular to the bottom cord of the trusses. the string will support the insulation. taping the joints of the added insulation is also a good idea. house wrap tape will work fine. insulating the underside of roof sheathing may not be a good idea in cold parts of the country as moisture will not be able to be vented away. check with a good local builder or inspector to prevent problems.

good luck
