insulating an old log built house.....serious help needed! | |
hi, i have just bought an old scandinavian house (c.1780) which is constructed with wooden logs. these logs are flat sided (they look like railway sleepers) and lay horizontally on top of each other. there is no cavity or insulation, just a thin layer of hardboard on the inside with lining paper. i need to install some serious insulation, but i am fearful of causing rot (dry or wet) by preventing the building from ‘breathing’. i would like to apply the insulation on the exterior (maybe solid kingspan type?), as i plan to then over clad this with wooden panels (the traditional red farg swedish finish). inside i plan to dry line and considered using foil backed gypsum to offer some insulation and a vapour barrier? as you can hear i need help! could someone advise on the best solution to provide very high insulation properties but without any risk of rot damage. thanks
