in the walls of an old house, there is no framing, just wooden planks with no 2 x 4's to lay the insulation between. is it possible to insulate well without framing? if so, how would you do it? | |
interior walls are just flat, wooden planks with no framing. we just bought the house and tore down the old plaster in order to just add drywall. adding framing to the inside walls of the house would cause a loss of much space in the small rooms and also would add significantly to the cost and labor throughout the entire house. we thought of adding house wrap and vinyl siding with attached insulation (since it needs it anyway) to the outside for insulation, but is there anything we can do other than framing to insulate the inside well? we don't want to lose heat and we'd like to not have sound escape like when we play music, etc. can you add foam insulation on the inside of the house? and would it do anything?

well, you can blow in cellulose insulation there. you won't need frames for that one.

you can use foam insulation for your house. actually, it is recommended to use spray foam since you won't be needing some framing for this one.
