How to insulate flat ceilings? | |
• Put on elbow and knee pads, with a dust mask and long-sleeved shirt. Crawl in the cavity with a piece of insulation. Mind where you put your weight.
• Put the insulation paper side down and on top of your drywall between the first joists.
• Start at the furthest end of this cavity area, working back.
• Push the insulation down into place as it rests on the drywall, snug against all joists from both sides.
• Carefully crawl out of this cavity space, for the second insulation piece. Cut them to the appropriate length with scissors, out of this cavity. Continue in this fashion until the ceiling is insulated. Take several breaks, stretching if your muscles are tight.
• Put a ladder in a corner of your room below the ceiling which needs insulating.
• Measure to cut the first lengths of insulation for your first section between ceiling joists. Starting at an end, hold this insulation length overhead, and place it with the paper side down between two ceiling joists. Stapling the lips of this paper on all side of the insulation onto the sides of your ceiling joists each 8 inches will make it the easier hold the insulation into place. Continue in the same fashion by moving your ladder whenever necessary, and measuring, the cutting and installing the new insulation, so the entire ceiling gets insulated.
