If I install a Vapor Retarder in My Attic, Do I Still Need Ventilation? | |
If you have installed a vapor retarder in your addict a ventilation is still necessary and because of the following reasons. Vapor retarder is made out of a material that is able to prevent water grains from entering an attic, thus decreasing the level of humidity. In addition, as the walls, ceilings and other parts of the room are now covered with a continuous sheet of vapor retarder it makes it harder for air to move there also. Thus, if you do not want your attic to smell like old air and have nothing to breath there than a ventilator is necessary as it makes the air move.
Of course, if you do not use your attic and want to save money than a ventilator is not necessary, but if you have installed the vapor retarder because you want the things you have in your attic to preserve than a ventilator is necessary. If air does not move than it is easier for dust to gather on your belongings which means additional work for you if you want to use them afterwards as they have to be cleaned or on some materials it is not even possible to clean all the dust off.
