How to insulate a garage door? | |
· Measure your garage door panels. Purchase polyurethane foam sheets from the local hardware store – ask for assistance in choosing the right type. Cut the sheathing using a utility knife and the panel measurements. Place the foam on the garage panels using a putty knife, covering it with aluminium foil tape.
· Purchase polystyrene foam and use it as another possible insulator. Cut out any stiff polystyrene to the required measurements and glue it on the garage panels. Tighten panel brackets on the foam and secure the insulation.
· Use a substitute method by utilizing two layers of weather strip for sealing off your door against cold or warm drafts. Remove any backing material from this weather strip and expose the adhesive strip. Place the adhesive strip facing downwards on the garage door panels. Use hand pressure for affixing or use a hammer and nails to pin the weather strip down.
· Purchase a ready-made garage insulation kit from your hardware store. Follow the provided instructions to properly install the kit.
Test this insulation once you are finished with this project. Close your garage door and look for any outside air coming in.
