How to install spray foam insulation? | |
· Prepare the walls to be sprayed by covering all the electrical outlets and boxes with masking tape and keep the foam from penetrating them.
· Unpack your foam insulation kit, which consists of 2 tanks of chemicals, and spray nozzles and hoses, depending on what kit you get. Spray a test area and get a feel of how much this foam expands with how much you need to spray.
· Hold your spray gun 18 or 24 inches from the wall. Spray a one-inch line around the place to be insulated. Spray it evenly, with a side to side motion in between the 2x4 studs. Start spraying from the top and work your way down. Spray a section entirely between the studs and then move to the following section.
· Check how the spray covers after the applied foam has expanded and dried, if necessary re-spray any hole with a light spray, sealing the area. Do not waste the insulation by using it too much.
· Use the foam saw and slice off any excess insulation. The foam insulation which protrudes past the 2x4 wall stud level has to be trimmed in order to prevent any problems while installing sheetrock or drywall.
Spray foam insulation could be harmful to the lungs. Never use this insulation without proper protective gear. Do not allow smoking and any open flame.
