Do Higher Insulation Levels Create Condensation Problems? | |
Insulation should be installed in a way and with all the necessary means taken so it would not create any problem with condensation. Quite often it is not done so and in these cases higher insulation level can create a condensation problem as there is more space for the water to gather. In this case if there is condensation, it can be really damaging to your house as excess humidity will create new problems in the future.
The closer the insulation is installed usually the better, of course you still have to leave some air space so do not install it too close. Actually, the best idea how to avoid the condensation problem is to install the insulation properly which means that if you follow the instruction of the insulation properly and take all the necessary measurements when installing it than condensation should be no problem.
Actually, there is no clear answer to the question whether a higher insulation level creates a condensation problem as it still depends on the way how the insulation is installed. As it was explained before in some cases higher insulation level might be the reason behind the condensation but usually it is because poor installation works.
Comment by: james mccracken 2007-07-19 21:19 | during hot, humid summer days we get condensation in basement walls between insulation and vapor barrier. only a de-humidifier helps.if i loosen the vapor barrier, allow air to enter from the interior of the house behind the barrierwill this lower the amount of condensation ?
