How to insulate basement walls? | |
· Take the measurements of the wall, making a pencil mark every 4 feet. Those marks should show the placement of the 2-by-4s or furring strips which will be installed on the wall. You can alternatively mark the wall using strips of the painters tape.
· Measure from the ceiling to the floor. Transfer the measurement onto the 2-by-4s and the hard insulation. Mark where you will need to cut.
· Cut the insulation and boards to the proper size using a circular saw.
· Put a 2-by-4 on each mark of the wall, the wide side should be down, securing it with the powder nail gun. Drive nails into the board each 2 feet.
· Cutting the end of a tube of strong construction adhesive using a utility knife, place it into a caulk gun. Pressing the trigger will force the push plate in the tube.
· Place the construction adhesive onto the back of some rigid insulation.
· Put the rigid insulation in between the 2-by-4s. Gently press on the piece of insulation using your hand and create a bond between your wall and the construction adhesive.
· Repeat this method and finish gluing the rigid insulation onto your cinder block wall.
You can leave the wall like this or you can cover it using drywall for a complete look.
