Fiberglass insulation is an excellent way to save energy as the thick blankets avoid the hot air getting out through the gaps or holes in the wallboards or ceiling and will help to keep your house warm. Fiberglass insulation is mostly used in insulating attics, because warm air rises up in the room and in case there are gaps or uninsulated areas through which the warm air can escape a lot of energy is lost.
Fiberglass is made of glass mats, which are glued together forming a soft thick blanket-like padding. The blankets are placed between joists and on walls, which are later covered with gypsum or plasterboards. Additional pieces of fibreglass can also be stuffed in holes or gaps. Another way is to use loose fibreglass insulation, which is blown into insufficiently insulated walls.
Insulation with fiberglass blankets is one of the easiest types of insulation – it is easy even for the beginner to install. It also requires no significant tools – you will need a sharp knife and protective gloves and goggles. In case fibreglass blankets you can also use a stapler for attaching them to the walls. It is recommended to wear a respiratory mask to avoid inhaling the small fibreglass dust and long clothes as fibreglass feels uncomfortable against the skin making it itch.

Air-washing can result in a significant reduction in the net R-value of attic spaces and especially rafter cavities in vaulted ceilings when ventilation flows are good.
