Electrical Insulation

Electrical insulation is a special kind of material or even an object that does not have any free electrons in it thus it is not able to spread electrical waves. Therefore, even if the electrical insulation is affected with some kind of a voltage no charge will flow.

The best electrical insulation is made out of silicon dioxide or Teflon as they have the best qualities in stopping electrical charges. Also polymers that resemble rubber in some terms and different plastics can be used as electrical insulation, but they are not as resistant to electricity as the previously mentioned materials and can be used as insulation for lower voltages. Different electrical insulations are designed for different level of voltage and the usage of them depends on that.

Electrical insulation is used in a big variety of items; mainly they surround the electrical wires to decrease the risk of electrical shock once somebody touches the wires. In huge electricity stations electrical insulation separates the conductors with high voltage to prevent accidents and fire if these conductors should touch each other. These kinds of insulation that is made to separate the high voltage electrical conductors without the currency passing through them is called insulator.
